The chART Outdoor Initiative & Gallery consists of public community art spaces supporting contemporary artists working in the visual arts. Our mission is to foster creativity and art excellence; provide exhibition space to new and established artists; provide programs and activities that encourage public awareness, participation, and appreciation of the visual arts and to serve as a catalyst for public revitalization of Charleston via the aesthetics of art.

The roast will be held on the lawn of Historic Quarters H&I. Quarters H&I is located inside the Officer’s Housing Historic District, a nationally registered historic district at the Navy Yard at Noisette. You may recognize the building from episodes of the popular tv show “Army Wives“. Quarters H&I is also commonly referred to as the Bachelor’s Officers Quarters referencing part of its former life hosting Navy officer bachelors during the active years of the Charleston Naval Base. The building overlooks the entrance to Riverfront Park and sits on a beautifully landscaped parcel part of the larger Chicora Gardens area.

2011/12 National Outdoor Sculpture Competition & Exhibition

The 6th annual competition and exhibition is currently installed at the picturesque North Charleston Riverfront Park. The eleven month exhibition features 14 imaginative and thought provoking large-scale sculptures by established and emerging artists from across the country. Visitors can enjoy the sculpture displays among 10 acres of walking paths, a fishing pier, boardwalk, playground, and children’s play fountain. Visit the Cultural Arts section of www.northcharleston.org for maps, images of the installed sculptures, and artists’ statements.

Christmas Festival & Parade

Saturday, December 3 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm around Park Circle with the Christmas Parade beginning at 6:00 pm. The Christmas Festival includes a Holiday Market with children activities craft vendors, food vendors, and live musical performances on three stages. The Christmas Parade begins at the corner of Montague and Mixson Avenues, proceeds down Montague, around Park Circle, and concludes at Armory Park. Immediately following the Christmas Parade, Mayor R. Keith Summey lights the City’s Christmas tree located outside the front entrance of the Felix C. Davis Community Center.

Together with Olde North Charleston Merchants Association, the North Charleston Artist Guild is presenting PARKTOBERFEST, an outdoor arts festival along East Montague Avenue in downtown Park Circle.

A section of East Montague will be blocked off from traffic on Saturday, October 22 (2:00pm to 6:00pm) as NCAG artists display and sell their works. In addition, the festival will include great local food from Park Circle restaurants, live music, and activities for kids, which means fun for the whole family. Join us and support the arts in North Charleston!
